A Weave of Cultural Significance
In partnership with Aban Eco
.Aban Eco and Tahanan's shared mission
is to preserve and celebrate the ancient art form of "ra-ra"
.
.
"Ra-ra" is a traditional form of weaving with natural fibres. The outcome are these beautiful woven mats we call "banig".
What is a "banig"?
.
Banig is a woven mat, made of dried leaves and primarily used for sleeping and sitting in the Philippines.
.
Visiting and connecting with the weavers first hand is vital for us to experience and learn the entire process of harvesting, drying the fibres and the weaving techniques. We work to build a genuine and sustainable relationship between weavers and consumers.
.
As Filipinas it is our honour to promote and to contribute in preserving an ancient tradition in the modern world.
